PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE BEGINNING THE TEST!
This assessment aims to help the Huron French department place you in the course that is best suited to your level. The test is diagnostic only, meaning that it does not affect your grades at all or appear on your transcript. Please complete it without the use of outside aids of any kind, e.g. without the use of dictionaries, translation apps, Google translate, or help from another person.
This is the only way we can get an accurate sense of your language level and suggest the very best French course for you.
Pretty please do not feel discouraged if you do not understand any given question, text, or recording! Some questions are harder and others easier; it is 100 percent normal to understand some questions but not others. It is also 100 percent normal to be stronger in one area of the assessment than another. (For example, stronger in reading comprehension than in listening or vice versa.)
The test will likely take you 60-90 minutes to complete. There is no time limit. Do not begin the test unless you have left yourself ample time to finish it.
If you do not know the answer to a question, do not guess. Simply leave that question blank and move on to the next one.
You will need a stable internet connection, a quiet spot, and speakers or headphones in order to complete the listening portions of the test.
Once you submit your completed test, the system will generate an automated message to the Huron French program. A professor and/or Academic Advisor may follow up with you to further assist you in your course enrollment.
If you have any questions about the placement test or the French program, please contact the Program Coordinator, Dr. David Blair, dblair@huron.uwo.ca
We very much look forward to seeing you in our Huron French
